Mikal Odom – Pride Month Interview

1. What inspired you to be a filmmaker?
An avid watcher of a lot of TV and films as a kid, my creative mind and instincts naturally became inquisitive about the process of producing narratives and making content. Ever since, I’ve been crafting my skills as a filmmaker; and more importantly, cultivating my voice as a storyteller.
2. What does Pride mean to you, and do you have any advice for the next generation?

Pride means having the ability to be my authentic self without judgment. My advice for the next generation of filmmakers and artists is to lead with your pride— Know that who you are and where you come from is all you need to evolve yourself and make an impact on the world.

3. What is your next project?

I am developing a film initiative around the life and work of late, great Black gay writer and activist, Joseph Beam.
