The feature dives deep into Sauna, the groundbreaking debut film from director Mathias Broe, which marks a historic moment as the first Danish film to cast a transgender actor in a leading trans role. Adapted from Mads Ananda Lodahl’s celebrated book, the film reimagines Romeo and Juliet through an intimate queer lens, exploring love, belonging, and identity within Copenhagen’s LGBTQ community.
At the center of the story are the film’s stars, Nina Rask (William) and Magnus Juhl Andersen (Johan), who open up to IN Magazine about portraying a relationship that begins as a Grindr hookup and grows into something transformative. Their performances bring tenderness, authenticity, and new dimension to queer storytelling.
